Things to do in Windermere

Windermere is a quintessential small Lakeland village with a big heart. If you mention the Lake District to someone, most people will instantly think of Windermere. This beautiful little area of the world is less than a 15 minute drive from the Cottage, making it easy to get to and enjoy for an afternoon or a whole day.

Miller Ground

Miller Ground is “The Lake District”. This picturesque spot has been the poster-picture for the lake district for generations. We love to wander along these shores on a warm summers evening, take a refreshing dip in the crystal clear waters and skip stones along the calm waters. The dogs love it as much as we do! For views you can climb up Queen Adelaides Hill from here, where you can see all the way across the lake to Wray Castle.

Tapios Tapas Bar

Tapios is a quirky little place! From the outside, it is deceptively small looking – but it packs several punches. It’s a little restaurant with big personality, big flavours and a big menu of big hitter dishes. Very reasonably priced, there are dozens upon dozens of interesting things to try and the small army of friendly and knowledgeable staff are always willing to recommend something new to taste – and we’re yet to be disappointed by their suggestions!
