Things to do in Kendal

Kendal is the home of Greyhound Cottage and we love it! Within a few minutes walk of the cottage are some of the best pubs and restaurants in the country coupled with some stunning views and attractions. We genuinely love Kendal so much that we chose to invest our life savings into creating a home away from home that you can enjoy as much as we do.

The Chocolate House

The 1657 Chocolate House in Kendal, Cumbria is believed to have been built in the 1630’s, originally as a private home in Kendal.

Long before it became a Lake District tourist attraction in 1984 the Chocolate House has been a bakery, antiques shop, travel agents and a ladies fashion shop.

Their luxury chocolates continue to attract chocoholics from over 40 countries taking advantage of 100 different kinds of loose chocolates, personalised chocolates and gift boxes. We highly recommend their hot chocolate!

Brewery Arts Centre

The Brewery Arts Centre is the cultural hub of Kendal.

As well as being a cinema and live music venue, the centre is also a live theatre, comedy club, art gallery, community centre, lecture hall, cafe, bar, community hub and education centre.

There is genuinely something for everyone and there are new events and exhibits advertised weekly so look them up.

The centre is around a 6 minute walk from Greyhound Cottage – just the other side of the river.

Lakeland Climbing Centre

The Lakeland Climbing Centre (aka Kendal Wall) is one of the tallest and most diverse climbing walls in the country.

As well as one of the tallest competition grade lead walls in the country, there is a mix of play, lead, top rope, bouldering, traverse and routing walls with hundreds of different routes and problems to climb.

Lakeland Climbing Centre is an award winning venue spread over 5 floors that is still going from strength to strength with the addition of a cafe, climbing gear shop, private lessons and a kids’ zone and it is only set to grow further.

Kendal Castle

Kendal Castle is a beautiful 12th century ruin perched on top of a hill, providing a beautiful 360 degree panorama of the local area and directly overlooking the town.

The Castle is a much loved picnic and dog walking spot and is the perfect romantic spot for a walk on a summer evening.

There is a trail directly to the grounds of (and subsequently up to) the castle from the bottom of Bridge Street – starting less than 50 yards from the cottage and going along the river Kent into acres of hills and the castle itself.
