Things to do in Grasmere

Grasmere is a small village part-way between Rydal and Keswick. The poet, William Wordsworth, described Grasmere as “The loveliest spot that man hath found” and when you visit, you can see why. It is the quintessential Lakeland village with a small church, cafe, craft shops and a gallery.

Baldry’s Team Room

Balry’s describes itself as “Consisting of a traditional English tearoom serving delicious food and drinks”. Having visited Baldry’s a dozen or so times now over the last few years, we have seen it go from strength to strength; it is a must-visit for us.

They are very dog-friendly, allowing both our greyhounds to sit inside or out as well as providing dog treats and water bowls.

The team produce freshly made cakes, scones and breads which have been baked in-house every single day for over 25 years.

Baldry’s provide generous portions of delicious food at a surprisingly good price given their location and how busy they are.

The staff are always friendly and nothing ever seems too much trouble for them.

Sarah Nelson’s Grasmere Gingerbread

In 1854, Sarah Nelson invented the Grasmere Gingerbread in the kitchen of her Lakeland cottage and it hasn’t changed since.

Her legacy lives on today, where her cottage remains unaltered and still turning out world famous Gingerbread to the original recipe which is shipped fresh every day all over the world.

Sarah Nelson’s Gingerbread has a very distinctive spicy, but sweet flavour, has fast and friendly service and is a must-visit attraction in the lakes – even if it’s just a flying visit.
