Greyhound Cottage is tucked away down one of Kendal’s delightful side streets, giving you privacy and peace from the bustling market town – yet within moments of leaving the front door you find yourself right in the heart of Kendal. Discover Kendal’s famous 18th-century ‘yards’, which once formed the network of this trade town. The yards can be found off the high street, look out for the Kendal Civic Society plaques which tell you more about the history of the yards and how they’ve evolved over time.

Kendal is only 6 miles from the M6 and the Lake District. Kendal and the Lake District is also easily accessible via buses and trains. Kendal railway station is only 0.5 miles away from Greyhound Cottage.

There’s something for everyone in the Lake District National Park from walking, climbing, sailing and quad biking, while Kendal itself has excellent shopping facilities, a leisure centre, museums, art galleries, and many sites of historical interest. The calendar is also packed with events year round, all amongst the beautiful changing scenery from the snowy Lakeland fells to the colourful autumn leaves to the sunny views across the hills and lakes in Summer.

Winter in the lakes means frosty mornings and fresh air followed by warm evenings in front of a roaring fire in a small country pub.

The spring brings events such as Damson day in the Lyth valley; the Keswick mountain festival and Holker garden festival.

In Summer you can enjoy the Cumbria Steam Gathering, the famous Appleby horse fair, the Great North Swim and Mintfest – an international festival of street arts in Kendal.

Autumn brings the Westmorland County Show, Cumbria Artists open Studios, Borrowdale Shepherds’ meet and show and the Kendal Torchlight Carnival. Kendal Mountain Festival is the largest of its kind in the world! A weekend of film and lectures showing the extraordinary achievements of world class adventurers with beautiful filming not only taking us into their world but the many different cultures across the globe.

The year ends with the Keswick Traditional Christmas Fayre and the Kirkby Lonsdale Christmas fair and procession.
