FAQs

Below, you will find a list of questions we are frequently asked about the cottage, the local area and our policies on pets, smoking and other useful information. We try to update this page whenever we are asked something new that may be of value to other customers, so if you do not find the answer to your question, please contact us and we will get back to you as soon as we possibly can.

The Cottage & Facilities

Do you charge extra for dogs? We never have and never will, all of your guests are included in the price you pay for the cottage and we see your dogs as our guests too. We believe it’s just not a proper holiday if you need to leave your pets behind or worry about how you are going to afford the premium to bring them with you.

We just ask that if they make any messes that you do your best to clean them and let us know so we can update our cleaners, who do an amazing job at making sure there’s no sign the dogs from the last stay were there.

We provide throws to use if your dogs want to sit on the sofa with you, all we ask is that you wash them before leaving if you let a wet dog sit on the throws. No-one likes that wet dog smell and our cleaners don’t have time to wash and dry them before the next guests arrive.

Do you allow Smoking/Vaping? Sorry, but no we don’t allow smoking inside or right outside the cottage. Neither ourselves nor a large percentage of our guests are smokers and would like to try and keep the cottage smoke free.

Do you have a TV License? We do indeed. We provide a FreeSat box so you can choose from a variety of channels. Alternatively, we have a DVD player and selection of DVDs for you to watch.

Do you provide WiFi? Yes we do. The code is in a frame in the cottage.

Are towels and bedding provided? All our beds are made up for all bookings and enough towels are provided for 4 guests regardless of how many are in your party.

Bookings

How do we book Greyhound Cottage? The easiest and fastest way to book a stay with us is to go through our lettings agent using the “Book Now” link on this website’s main menu. However, if you contact us directly we will endeavour to give you the best price possible.

What do I do if there is a problem while I’m at Greyhound Cottage? There are emergency numbers in the welcome book in the cottage. If you are unable to get the help you need, please call the contact number on the contact page of our website and on the footer of this page.

The Area

Would you recommend the area if I am not a keen walker? The Lake District offers so much more than just beautiful walks. Kendal itself has many attractions including shops, places to eat and drink, Kendal Museum, Abbot Hall Art Gallery and the Brewery Arts Centre. There are also many events and festivals, just check out our Local Area page for more information.

If you would prefer to drive than walk there are still many places you can see stunning views. According to a special formula conceived by car rental company Avis, the journey along the A591 from Kendal to Keswick is the best drive in Britain! You can also travel by boat and steam train if you head to the nearby Lake Windermere.

Is the Lake District dog friendly?

The Lake District is incredibly doggie friendly! The majority of shops, pubs and cafes allow dogs to enter with you, if you don’t see a sign to tell you, just ask. The main exceptions are some of the chain stores you find in all towns, which often have a blanket ‘no dogs’ rule. Westmorland Shopping Centre in Kendal now allows dogs to walk through.
